Allocations Council

Impacting the Community

Community Impact Councils are sub-committees of the United Way of Amarillo & Canyon Community Impact Department. The Councils are charged with managing one of UWAC’s four Impact Areas (Income, Education, Health & Basic Needs). Impact Councils recommend funding for approval by the Board of Directors. The primary function of the Volunteer is to ensure that all organizations applying for grant funding through Community Impact are able to:

  •  Articulate a strong correlation between their mission and vision and the overall strategic goals of United Way.

  • Identify their chosen goal area(s) and demonstrate their ability to move the needle on community-level outcomes through a shared measurement process.

  • Articulate a strong correlation between the activities of the organization and their ability to meet process objectives and anticipated impacts in the goal areas.

The Community Investment Process helps to ensure that locally-raised dollars are invested in programs that meet the goals to positively impact the greatest community needs.  This process is meant to be an educational and rewarding experience for each council member.

Role of the Council:

  • Have knowledge of the primary activities of the applying organization

  • Have the ability to support high standards for review and evaluation

  • Have a basic understanding of UWAC’s Community Impact goals and strategies

  • Receive and review grant applications in an open, honest and objective manner

  • Sign a confidentiality and conflict of interest statement

  • Assess agency performance

  • Identify, prioritize and invest United Way resources in ways that will address the most pressing needs in that area (and ultimately change underlying conditions)

  • Recommend allocation of dollars to the Board of Directors
